Seminar Richard III
Client: Department of English and German Philology (University of Santiago de Compostela, Galicia)
Work: Image and design of announcing poster.
This poster was designed to announce the Seminar A Reassessment of King Richard III: the Man and the Myth, organized by the Department of English and German Philology of the University of Santiago de Compostela and the research group ‘Discourse and Identity. Research Group for the multidisciplinary study of English Language, Literature and Culture (GI-1924)’.
The seminar was held on December 20th 2011 at the Faculty of Philology of the University of Santiago de Compostela. Six lecturers and members of the aforesaid research group discussed several aspects of the historical English king Richard III (1452-1485) and his transformation into a universal myth by William Shakespeare in his dramatic work Richard III (1591).
The seminar was mainly intended for students of several subjects of English history, culture and literature included in the Degree in English Language and Literature of the University of Santiago de Compostela.
As for the design of the poster, we chose to use the famous portrait of King Richard III that shows a peaceful and quite countenance of the monarch. Moreover, we included the symbol of the House of York to which the king belonged (a white rose). In this way, we tried to demystify the evil character created by Shakespeare and bring the real Richard closer to the public.
